About Our School

The South St. Paul Middle School is located in the SSP Secondary Building. SSP Secondary houses both the middle and the high school. Both schools operated independently with separate administrations and teaching staff, but share common spaces such as the cafeteria and media center.

ATTENDANCE

South St. Paul Secondary believes that regular school attendance is directly related to success in academic work, benefits students socially, provides opportunity for important communication between teacher and student and establishes regular habits of dependability important to the future of the student. The following attendance procedures are intended to be positive and not punitive.

These procedures also recognize that class attendance is a joint responsibility to be shared by students, parents/guardians, teachers and administrators.

STUDENT PROCEDURES

Report to the Attendance Office with a note from your parent/guardian for a pass.
Carry your pass to all classes for teachers to sign.
If you know you will be missing school, bring a note from your parent/guardian ahead of time to the Attendance Office. You will carry a slip around for all your teachers to sign.
If you need to leave school early, you must have a note from your parent/guardian. The Attendance Office will issue you an Early Release slip before school.
If you become ill during the school day, you must report to the Health Office for proper release. If you do not report to the Health Office (or leave the building without prior permission from an administrator), your absence is unexcused.

PARENT/GUARDIAN PROCEDURES

Call the Attendance Office on the day of the absence by 10:00 a.m. to report absence at (651) 457-9415 (a 24-hour voicemail number). Please leave the student's first and last name, reason for absence, your relationship to the student and a phone number where you can be reached.
A note from the parent/guardian should accompany the student upon his/her return to school.
Notify the Attendance Office if your son/daughter will be gone for family or medical emergencies.
Notify the Attendance Office by note if your son/daughter is to leave early for an appointment.

SCHOOL PROCEDURES

The Secondary Building has implemented an automated attendance alert calling system. This system will automatically place two phone calls to the parents/guardians, one in the morning and one in the evening, to notify them of their child's absence regardless if the absence has been phoned in or not.
All absences are considered unexcused until verification can be made.

DROP OFF/PICK UP/PARKING

Student Drop-Off Procedure

Student drop off at SSP Secondary should be done at Door 4 located on Second Street (south side of the building).

Please DO NOT drive into the east parking lot or through the Central Square parking lot to drop students off. We have Special Services buses dropping students off in this area and it creates a safety hazard.

After School Pick-up Procedure

Student can be picked up at South Doors after school. After the buses have left, you may pick up students at the North Doors or you may wait on Third Street west of the service road entrance.

Please DO NOT pick up students at the east doors (door #7). We ask that you please stay out of the parking lot after school.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Student Parking

Students are allowed to park on Kaposia Boulevard and on the south side of 3rd Street between 9th and 6th Avenues from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Special School District #6 accepts NO responsibility for loss of personal property or damage to your car in school parking lot. Keep your car locked and do not leave valuables in it.

Grade 12 student parking is permitted in east parking lot in designated area with parking passes only. Vehicles that are illegally parked, parked outside of designated areas, or parked without a permit displayed may be booted ($30 – 1^st offense, $60 – 2^nd offense, $90 – 3^rdoffense.) The fine must be paid before the boot will be removed (Please see District Policy #527).

Senior Parking Information will be given to 12th grade students the first week of school.

The South St. Paul Counseling Program is a cooperative effort involving students, staff, parents, and the community. Counselors are available to assist students in the following areas:

Individual or Small Group Counseling
Parent and Teacher Consultations
Referral Assistance to Other Programs
Other Areas as Needed

School Building Hours

Students may enter the building at 7:30 a.m.
Door #7 is the only door open during school hours (7:50 a.m. - 2:30 p.m). Door #7 is the east door. Before and after school students must enter through door 14 or door 4, unless specifically assigned to door 7.
Students are expected to have exited the building by 2:50 p.m. unless they are under the direct supervision of a staff member or coach.

Visitor Information

If you are planning a visit to South St. Paul Secondary, please stop by the office to sign in and pick up a visitor name tag. When your visit is over, please remember to sign out.
